Enhanced carbon rapidly removes chloramines, organics, and discoloration for cleaner, safer reef aquarium water. This carbon is a granular Catalytic activated carbon (CAC) made from selected grades of coconut shells and initially designed to reduce undesirable tastes, odors and dissolved organic chemicals in municipal drinking water. CAC effectively removes chlorine, chloramine and hydrogen sulfide from potable water sources, thereby making it a powerful filtration media in fresh/saltwater aquariums. Regular activated carbon works mainly by adsorption—trapping contaminants in its pores. CAC, in contrast, traps contaminants through adsorption and also has more reactive surface groups that allow catalytic chemical reactions, thereby converting contaminants into harmless forms without getting used up.
